Every summer will be a nightmare; every winter will be a nuisance. A visit in a shoe shop will be a failure, a pain will be difficult to handle. The sense of attractiveness will fade and eventually become a history. It is not a prophecy, it is a reality inflicted by civilization upon the prettier part of the world. Shoes are the culprit. Those most feminine, most elegant, most sexy, most liked… Spike heels, boots, pumps…
Showpiece
Feet, although hidden under the sock and shoe, represent their owner. Women are particularly known for taking care of this part of the body. And they much more often suffer from feet degeneration. Bunion is a terrifying name for many ladies. It doesn’t result from genetics or inheritable defects, but it’s an acquired alteration caused by contemporary culture. High heels, the source of male fantasies, add sex appeal to women, but that’s not all they do. They optically lengthen the outline and improve the shape of calves and buttocks. Unfortunately it’s often at the expense of health. A job requiring prolonged standing as well as excess weight are other causes of bunions development.
The mechanism of deformation is relatively simple. A foot, set unnaturally in relation to the ground is subject to strain, especially in the forefoot. Shape of shoes and frequently wrong size in the course of years contribute to alterations, which are hard to reverse. When taking a step in high heels, and particularly in spike hills with a sharp point, your toes become an unnatural point of support. Orthopedists are warning: altered foot biomechanics, affected by spike heels, boots or high heels weakens the muscles and is particularly dangerous for women, whose muscles, ligaments and joints in feet are much more tender and prone to injuries. Statistics appear to support doctors’ anxiety. One of forty women will suffer from bunions. We’re not talking physical pain and mobility constraints exclusively at this point, but also about visual effects. Deformed feet happen to be a really unpleasant view; they are the cause of complexes, frustration and mental suffering. Unfortunately the look is not the worst problem. Bunion is a painful enlargement of bone tissue, best visible in the X-ray image. Deformations might be seriously advanced and rehabilitation becomes problematic in such situations.
A bunion S.O.S.
The changes are gradual and overlooked at the beginning. Their first symptom is pain, obviously. When it is recurrent, ladies are advised to immediately arrange a visit at orthopedist’s. Prophylaxis might be crucial. The next symptom is occurrence of transverse flat foot. If that’s the diagnosis, listen to your doctor carefully and follow his advice, as he will most probably tell you to change your habits and buy special insoles to provide your foot with an appropriate support. The development of deformation at this stage is still reversible, so you’d better not ignore the recommendations and first symptoms. As a part of prophylaxis it is also advised to use bunion plasters and when a deformation is fully developed you will definitely avail of bunion rubber shields, which protect the joint of the hallux. Temporary relief can be achieved with a variety of gels and ointments. Before we end up in a operating room, and it is frequently the only solution left, you should follow several simple rules. Unfortunately it is necessary to resign from spike heels! Secondly, you will not want shoes of narrow toe any more. Thirdly, you should do some sports and keep you BMI in control, what will protect you from strains. Frequent changes of footwear, use of insoles and most of all appropriate footwear selection, meaning that conducive to comfort instead of looks, is the last of commandments and recommendations. Bunions might be operated on. Until recently it was necessary to put a foot in a plaster for six weeks after the surgery. Medicine, however, is not stuck and plaster has been replaced by other means, strictly speaking by specialized footwear. After six weeks you will be ready to wear you regular shoes again. The advance is so unbelievable that today even after a few days after surgery you can put weight on the treated foot, what was impossible a decade ago. The pain, plaster and long recovery are becoming history as well. You will leave a centre of plastic surgery even after three days, and not in a wheelchair, not even with crutches or other people’s support. You will leave the same way you entered – on your own feet.
Surgery brings a new sense to a life of woman or rather brings the lost one back. Healthy, beautiful feet are ready to wear comfortable shoes.
